My name is Tia De Fries, and I study Performing Arts and over this year I have really enjoyed studying this course and meeting new people, as it has helped me grow my confidence. I’m really excited for the next year and what crazy adventures I would be doing. In turns of my performance, it is based on the play Love and Information in the scene The Child That Didn’t Know Sorry in Section 6. For the character Scarlett, she is at therapy telling the therapist what caused her mental state to become unhealthy and seeks some more help. The character has two different sides to her, meaning she has some sort of split personality disorder: one a murdering/crazy child who never says sorry and the other a scared teenager trying to apologize for what she has done in the past. My inspiration for this character and plot of the performance, is that I was watching one of my favourite YouTube roleplays and one of the characters had an interesting plot where they got turned into a zombie and in order to survive he must eat a human brain. However, each human brain contains different personalities to which he would become. Therefore he ate a crazy fan brain who would do anything just to get near the celebrity. This then led me to come up with Scarlett as a child but I also wanted a character who is completely opposite to the child so I created Scarlett as a teenager. I personally found this performance very challenging because in my house there isn’t a lot of performance space and it was sometimes a bit unclear where the scene was set, but I did what I could. As well as that, I personally have a big, loud family in one household and it was very difficult to block out the background noise. Overall, I did enjoy creating my performance as I wanted to work on two completely different characters, by changing the tone of voices but also the body language of the characters. I would have preferred to do it at a more professional location to improve on the: sound, lighting, props and stage space.
