My name is Declan Taylor and my piece is called ‘Desolation Escalation’. The piece that I have created is a news report about a recent virus called ‘Desolation’ which has impacted the world changing our physical emotions. This piece sees two different reporters discuss the impact in which the virus is having across our world and the possible ways in which we can combat the virus.

 

When making my piece, I was strongly inspired by the daily news reports on the Coronavirus and the impact it is having on society. This led me to create my own take on the global pandemic but with a slight twist, having my characters based on the famous Donald Trump and Boris Johnson. The reason I decided to chose to base my characters on Trump and Boris is because they have appeared on the news a lot recently with their different views on how to tackle the spread of COVID-19. When creating this piece from home, I initially struggled as I was unaware on how to start, having to watch countless interviews from both Boris and Trump, allowing me to understand how these political characters would speak and how I can use their way of speech for my own characters. Overall, I found working from home very challenging as having to film and edit my piece was new to me, but it lead me to learn new skills for future projects I would do at home.
